FPS is one of the essential factors in any game. It means frames per second, and your monitor, graphics card, and processor play a massive role in ensuring you have a high FPS.

Everything must be in sync to achieve that high FPS, but there are specific steps you can use to limit that FPS. Since overclocking can often lead to lagging and game freezing. The highest FPS does not necessarily mean good.

That is why we can’t force VSYNC from the AMD Control center or through the NVIDIA Control panel if you have an AMD card. 

• Firstly, we will have to determine how much FPS your game rolls out; for that, open Sims 3 and get into the game.
• Now, press Shift+Ctrl+C simultaneously; this will open the console (here, you can type cheats, But we can also check the FPS using this console). After the console opens, type fps on and Enter, this will display your fps count. If your fps count is over 60, you must follow the steps ahead; you should be good if it’s under 60.
• Now, the steps will depend on two factors; there are different ways for NVIDIA graphic cards and AMD cards; we will show you both.

For Nvidia Cards

• Firstly, you need to right-click on the Windows desktop; you will see a menu pop-up displaying the NVIDIA Control Panel. Alternatively, you can always use the Windows search console to search for it. If you are using Windows 11, then make sure to click on Show More Options after Right-clicking the desktop.
• Click on the Manage 3D Settings page; mostly, you will be on the page when the control panel opens.
• Now Click on the Program Settings option and Select Sims 3 (or ts3w.exe, it will probably be named differently for everyone)
• You will find the sims 3 Under the Select Program to Customize option; you will also have to add the TS3 executable file (most of them will be named as so, TS3W.exe for 1.67 or whatever version of the game you are playing)
• Click on Add, then Browse; after that, you will need to find the TS3W.exe file; after you do, select it and click Open.
• When Sims 3 is selected, look for VSYNC, also known as Vertical Sync, and if it is off, set it to On or Adaptive, then click Apply. This should do it.

Note: For VSYNC to take full effect, you should play in full screen mode; otherwise, it won’t work.

For Amd Radeon Video Cards

• Repeat the same first step for AMD Radeon as well; right-click on the desktop, go to More Options if you are on Windows 11, and then click on AMD Radeon Software/ AMD Radeon Catalyst Control Center; it varies depending on the video card. You can also use the Windows search console.
• Click on the Gaming option and then 3D Application Settings.
• Click on the Add option, search for the TS3W.exe file, and click on the Open. A dialog box will appear; close it.
• Click on the TS3W.exe and then expand the Frame Rate Control.
• Now, select Always On under the Wait for Vertical Refresh. Click on the Save button. This is only for the AMD Catalyst or, more specifically, an AMD Radeon HD 5670.

Remember that the FPS will also depend on the Hz of your monitor, and you should also match the FPS with your monitor Hz. For example, if your monitor is 120 Hz, then matching it with 120 FPS is a good idea.

Using External Programs (Justmiha Method)

We saw that the previous method works for fullscreen mode, but this sims 3 fps limiter one also works for windowed mode. For this, you will need to make an account at NexusMods, but it is free, so there is no problem.

Firstly, go to the download page of Nexus Mods:

Making an account is free and quick. Once an account is created, go back to the account created, go to the download link and get the file. Scroll down to the Manual Download option, and a new page will open; you will have to select the Slow Download option.

Like when you download a mod, a .rar file will be downloaded on your computer. Open the file and extract the contents of that folder into C:/Program Files (x86)/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin. Alternatively, the destination folder can also be C:/Program Files x(86)/Origin Games/The Sims 3/Game/Bin, or wherever the Bin file is located, you have to empty the content there.

That is it; however, you must remember a few things. First, your game’s default fps is 30, which will be limited to that. But you can change it by going to the notepad file named antilag. cfg and change the fps to 60 or 120 based on your monitor.
