You can sell the plants you grow or use them while cooking. It can either be your sole focus or a hobby to relax and unwind.
But for any of this, you need to achieve the skills. If you have the Seasons Expansion Pack, it will offer you flower arranging skills by default.
However, if you don’t have the EP, you can still enjoy its benefits though they’d be fewer.
Sims 4 gardening traits
You should have particular attributes that’d help you progress in the game further and acquire the gardening skill quickly.
One of them is Freelance Botanist Aspiration, wherein you can work on your gardening and enjoy the perks such as Green Thumb from the reward store.
It’s a suggestion to get The Loves Outdoors trait if you’re interested in this field because you’d spend most of your time outdoors, so it’s better to make it worthwhile.
Levels in Gardening Sims 4
In the Sims 4 gardening guide, you’d have to go through various levels, and when you reach level 10, you will receive a Green Thumb achievement.
Here is all you must know about every level and pass it with flying colors.
- Level 1 –
It’s the basic level wherein your character can plant, water, weed, and harvest plants in your garden.
They can also acquire starter seed packets and read books regarding the same.
However, the more you work, the more skills you’d gain. To buy seeds, either click on the computer or the flower pot or buy harvestable items from shops globally.
Once you place the seed, click on the plant interaction that would appear on the screen.
- Level 2 –
Moving one step further, you’d be able to research gardening.
You’d also receive a focused moodlet by doing so, which would eventually help you in your task.
- Level 3 – Sims 4 fertilizer
As you progress, you’d gain more perks.
For instance, at this level, you can use the best fertilizer to grow a superior plant quality.
- Level 4 –
As soon as you reach this level, you can buy ‘fall’ and ‘spring’ seasons seed packets, as it’d earn you more profits by ensuring an all-year crop yield. But, it’s only possible if you have installed “Seasons.”
Another benefit is that you’d gain the ability to talk to flowers, fulfill your social needs, and choose not to be social with any other sim ever.
- Level 4 –
As soon as you reach this level, you can buy ‘fall’ and ‘spring’ seasons seed packets, as it’d earn you more profits by ensuring an all-year crop yield.
But, it’s only possible if you have installed “Seasons.” Another benefit is that you’d gain the ability to talk to flowers, fulfill your social needs, and choose not to be social with any other sim ever.
- Level 6 –
Don’t you feel frustrated when you have to throw away weeds one by one?
Well, this level would solve that problem of yours as you can cover larger areas to remove weed and fasten the pace of the process.
- Level 7 –
By this level, you’d be skilled enough to tend the garden by removing weeds and watering your entire land with just a single click.
In addition, you’d receive uncommon seed packets and farmer seed packets.
- Level 8 –
If you wish to earn the Super Sell feature, you’d have to reach this level and sell numerous Sims 4 plants at once without waiting for them to harvest.
Moreover, you can restore a dead plant by paying §100 as well.
- Level 9 –
This stage wouldn’t offer any new perks, but it’d make things like weeding, watering, and so on easier for you.
Your speed of doing things would multiply, so it’s not that bad.
- Level 10 –
Prepare yourself to spend money at this level; it’ll be worth it, though. You’d have to devote §1,000 per pack to buy rare seed. However, their benefits surpass their cost.
You’d also get a cowplant berry in them to reach out for a friend.
How to plant seeds in Sims 4
The steps to know Sims 4 how to plant seeds are pretty easy to follow through. Here is how to go about it.
- Firstly, drag a plant from the inventory into a planter box or directly in the ground. One square grid is equal to one plant if you go ahead with the latter technique.
- Now, click on a single plant and select a plant to sow any produce without disturbing the already sown ones. Therefore, place all the plants and then click on this option.
How to garden in Sims 4
All the things you need to keep in mind while working on your gardening collection is as follows –
- Tending the plants –
Every plant would require your character’s attention regarding weeding, watering, spraying for bugs, and so on.
If you’ve Seasons, the rain will take one task off your hand, watering the plants as the rain would be enough to do so.
You also have the option of hiring a gardener who’d do all the work while you sit back and relax. It’d be present in the services option on your phone.
You must tend to the garden every 12 sim hours, though otherwise their health and quality would suffer. The progress bar on top of each plant would help you keep track of their health. Furthermore, in Sims 4: Get to Work, plants from Sixam don’t need watering.
Your crops would develop small white and yellow flowers around their base to indicate that there are weeds.
- Buying seeds –
There are numerous ways to purchase seeds, and they are as follows –
- Firstly, you can find it in the outdoor activities via buy mode after the recent patch.
- Secondly, it’s under the Order Menu, or you can click on Gardening Pots.
- To buy them, go to Function > Hobbies & Skills > Miscellaneous in the build mode.
You can choose seeds from the starter pack of flowers, herbs, fruits, or vegetables by default.
In addition, you should aim to diversify your garden with different types of plants.
- Spraying for bugs
Another gardening tip is to keep small swarms of bugs away from your flowers.
It wouldn’t be difficult to spray the plants to get rid of the bugs. The Sixam Mosquito Trap would not be of any help. Also, in the Seasons EP, the bugs would appear only in spring.
- Death and resurrection
There are various ways to kill a plant. It could be fire, stomping, or the touch of a ghost whose death was due to a cowplant.
When the plant dies, it will emanate an odor, quite like trash, and it won’t revive. To restore the plant, you’d have to pay §100, but it’d regrow from the beginning. Its quality wouldn’t suffer, though.
- Fertilizing
As mentioned earlier, you can fertilize your plants once you reach level 3.
They won’t wilt even if you ignore them for a day or two. Fishes act as the best Sims 4 fertilizer; however, you’d need the fishing skill to relish this perk. It’s not a compulsion; you can use less worthy plants to sow in your garden. Trash plants and mushrooms act as a good fertilizer.
If you have the rare seed package, try the Growfruit fertilizer, as it’s also an excellent choice.
All the other plants are either medium or low as fertilizers. You must give your plants cooling-off periods as well.
- Evolving
Your plants can reach up to five levels of quality: normal, nice, excellent, magnificent, and perfect.
Their quality would enhance from 2x to 3.5x. So, you must look after them to make them reach from normal to perfect quality and be patient for them to sparkle. To evolve plants, click on the sparkling plant and hit evolve. It’s possible only if you’re at stage 2. If gardening Sims 4 is more than a hobby for you, then selling evolved plants would earn you more money.
For instance, graft a wild plant to a high-quality one to get an equally good quality plant such as a perfect Blackberry bush or a dragonfruit.
- Harvesting
As soon as the plants sprout, they become harvestable.
There are 32 harvestable and 50 more, which were added in content packs, making it a total of 82 harvests.
If you harvest quickly, you will gain one harvestable, and the plant would reset to produce another harvest after completing the cycle.
However, if you don’t harvest immediately, it’ll keep producing yields before reaching 10 because that’s its limit.
If you aren’t on the Super Sell stage yet, then harvest your crops, to sell or to sow other plants.
Just choose a particular plant and click on ‘harvest;’ it’d end up in your character’s inventory.
Subsequently, drag the crops to the ground to seed them or the sale box in the inventory to sell them.
In the Sims 4: Seasons, due to the gardening overhaul, the harvest produce is set at 5 a.m.
- Seasons
It’s specifically for those who’ve installed Seasons on their pc.
The seasons impact your plants their fruit/flower-bearing abilities.
Even though there are plants that remain unaffected by seasons, their tending is still essential.
The ones which bloom only for particular seasons; would stay dormant for the rest of the time. You don’t need to tend them when they are in their dormant stage.
Some of the crops would grow slower during their off-season, but they won’t produce any harvests.
- Using beekeeping
The ones who are willing to go the extra mile to ensure their garden’s well-being and who have Sims 4: Seasons can also add beekeeping.
Place it in the middle of your land, and any crops within a 5-mile radius of it would yield its benefits and grow immaculately.
Moreover, its quality would improve and strengthen. Besides, you’d also produce honey which would make your character happy, prevent them from heat death, and earn more profit upon selling.
- Rewards –
Furthermore, to receive the ‘Go, Green Thumbs’ award, you must harvest every single base game plant, except death flower and plantain, to complete your gardening collection.
- Sims 4 Grafting
Grafting is a reliable and valuable technique to experiment with plants. In this, you take a piece of a plant and attach it to another flower’s branch to create hybrid plants.
If you aren’t using cheats, splicing plants should be your go-to plan for acquiring more crops.
Out of the two plants, click on one of them and select ‘take cutting.’
Then click on the other one and choose ‘graft.’ After this, you’ll either end up with a hybrid that would produce two different flowers or an entirely new species.
The recipe for the new spliced plants would become part of your notebook. However, you won’t be able to graft Mushrooms and Sixam Mosquito Trap to any other plant.
A plant can only bear one to three cutting; otherwise, it’d die.
So if you’ve followed the correct procedure, the chances of getting a rare or uncommon flower reduce considerably.
Common plants take up a weight of 500, 100 for uncommon and 1 for rare. As a result, 1 out of every 600 harvests would be a rare species.
Also, it’s beneficial to graft only 2-3 plants at once, and you must allow it to take its time to harvest.
Grafting combinations
We’ve prepared a list of grafting combos that you can try out.
Common plants
- Graft Sage on Basil to create Parsley.

- Eating –
Your produce could serve two purposes. You can either sell them or consume them from your inventory.
Eating raw produce was possible due to the free patch from Outdoor Retreat Game Pack. Vegetarian sims can enjoy this aspect fully.
Also, the plant quality would affect the extent of your happy moodlet. However, ensure you eat edible plants as you’d receive a +3 happy moddlet for 4 hours instead of poisonous ones such as Outdoor Retreat.
- Garden Planters
If you wish to cover your house with plants inside instead of outside, you should use the garden planters.
You’d have to choose between a small, single circular planter costing $50 or a larger square four grid square planter. A larger planter would allow you to have 4 small flowers or a big one, for instance, a tree, which would cost $200.
Also, if you’re finding it challenging to decide regarding the two types, go ahead with a woodworking table, which would enable you to plant both planter types. However, it wouldn’t be as efficient as the one in the build mode.
- Microscope sample
For those who have a career in this field, you might want to invest $1630 in a microscope.
However, if you have one, you can click on a plant and select it to analyze it closely. Due to this, you could gain a painting worth hundreds of Simoleons or work as indoor decor for a geek’s paradise.
Your sim’s logical skill would benefit from this.
- Seed Packets
The only way to get plants in your character’s inventory is through seed packets. You can buy them either from the outdoor activities section in the build mode or from the order menu on your computer.
One of the perks of progressing through the levels is that you’d unlock new seeds with more rare items. It’ll eventually earn you more profits.

- If you adore plants, then you can learn more about turning into a plantsim.
Gardening overhaul
The ones with Seasons would have faced this issue of a gardening overhaul after you received a free patch. Watering plants isn’t a headache anymore, and flowers up to 1 full square away in build mode would get water after your character completes the animation. Therefore, your sim would only have to do 10% of the watering. Moreover, you no longer require inventory to sell your crops.
